Welcome to 7th grade Spanish! In this class, we will build on the language foundation of 6th grade, working on expanding the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. It is a fun year for students because their language skills progress from using simple phrases and short sentences to being able to more creatively express themselves in the language.
Topics we will cover as we work on the 4 areas of language learning include: family, community locations, daily routines, feelings, and food. Within each topic there will be a variety of cultural connections and opportunities for students to creatively express themselves. Assessments will cover each of the 4 areas of language learning through quizzes, projects, and speaking interviews.
There will be a small amount of regular homework, which will connect with the oral in-class exercises. Besides completing home work, two great ways to practice Spanish are to review vocabulary or teach another family member what was learned in class. Also, there are many websites available at a variety of levels. Duolingo at https://www.duolingo.com/ is one we will occasionally use in class and is highly recommended.
If you have any questions, I am available after school, via email ([email protected] or within the Google school account, [email protected]) or by phone at 309-862-4462
If you would like additional help from a tutor, I would recommend contacting: Katie Hesser at [email protected]. She is an ISU elementary ed major with extensive training in Spanish and tutoring.
