Welcome to 8th grade Spanish! This year we have two primary goals:
1. To complete all of the content covered by the Spanish 1 class at U-High so that students are well prepared for Spanish 2.
2. To further develop language skills in the area of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Topics we will cover include: discussing daily activities in the future, present and past tense; completing routine tasks such as ordering food, purchasing objects, asking for directions, and introducing ourselves and others; and comparing and contrasting people, places and things. Within each topic there will be a variety of cultural connections and opportunities for students to creatively express themselves. Assessments will cover each of the 4 areas of language learning through quizzes, short projects, narrative writing and speaking interviews.
There will be regular homework to further solidify classroom exercises and oral practice. Besides completing homework assignments, two great ways to practice Spanish at home are to review vocabulary or teach another family member what was learned in class. Also, there are many websites available at a variety of levels. Duolingo at https://www.duolingo.com/ is one we will occasionally use in class and is highly recommended.
If you have any questions, I am available after school, via email ([email protected] or within the Google school account, [email protected]) or by phone at 309-862-4462
If you would like additional help from a tutor, I would recommend contacting: Katie Hesser at [email protected]. She is an ISU education major with extensive training in Spanish and tutoring.
